FFmpeg is a free, open source project for working with multimedia. It's frequently thought of as a single program, but in reality it's a massive suite of utilities and libraries that are used by countless platforms and applications. The name comes from a combination of "Fast Forward" and MPEG, the Moving Pictures Experts Group.
