To help you better improve the quality of your viewers’ experience and diagnose and debug issues, we’ve improved device detection to be more accurate. Because video experiences can vary widely by device, it’s helpful to have as much information as possible to track where issues are occurring. We’ve improved the data for:

  • Operating System
  • Operating System Version
  • Browser
  • Browser Version
  • Device Type
  • Device

Getting here wasn’t easy - check out this post from our product manager, Steve Lyons, on the challenges of device detection. Here's a peek at what he had to deal with:

Why wouldn't you know "AFTMM" refers to a Fire TV Stick?

LinkRelease Details

If you are using the Mux SDK for AVPlayer, ExoPlayer, or Roku, you will get the improved detection automatically without needing to change anything. However, if you are building a custom integration on our native frameworks, you’ll need to update to the latest version.

For web-based SDKs, you need to update to the latest versions. As an added bonus for updating, the new versions are about 15% smaller in size and include additional optimizations to make Mux web SDKs more efficient.

We hope this is helpful. We're always open to hearing what improvements you'd like to see–feel free to drop us a line!
